The country is very rich in flora with about 600 different species of plants. The geographic aspects of the country makes it very interesting because one could go from a sub alpine temperate forest, to alpine, and subtropical forest in matter of hours. The varied vegetation makes it enthusing for nature lovers, to even just to sit back and relax and enjoy the drive, as the natural drama of plant species unfolds right before your eyes. The pine forest with trees like Blue pine, spruce, hemlock, fur etc would be replaced by the alpine shrubs like azaleas, tiny alpine flowers like edelweiss, gentians etc. The subtropical forest is lush green year round, trees like oaks, chestnuts, himalayan wild cherry etc grows in abundance. The national tree is the weeping cyprus and the national flower is the blue poppy.
